Punjab Minister for Health and Population, Khawaja Imran Nazeer, held a meeting with a delegation from the GAVI Mission.

The delegation included Craig Byrenik, Emily Kobayashi, Tanzeela Taskeen from the Gates Foundation, and Khurram Butt.

Additional Secretaries of the Health & Population Department, Director General Health, Director EPI, and members of the Roadmap Team were also present.

Khawaja Imran Nazeer briefed the delegation on various ongoing programs in the province.

The delegation appreciated Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Health Reforms Program. They were also given a presentation on the one-year performance of different health initiatives.

Minister Imran Nazeer stated that the government has launched multiple public health projects aimed at further improving the quality of health services.

He noted that with the cooperation of health partners, Punjab reported an 81% reduction in measles cases compared to the previous year.

Highlighting the revamping program, the minister said that the addition of value-added facilities would enable the provision of better healthcare services to citizens.

He added that the BHU Outsourcing Model is playing a significant role in delivering public health facilities.

According to the briefing, the Clinics on Wheels initiative has increased immunization coverage in Lahore’s katchi abadis (slum areas) from 66% to 88%.

The minister stated that the Community Health Inspector Project would provide an effective social mobilization force.

He further shared that digital mapping of the province is gradually improving immunization coverage areas.

Khawaja Imran Nazeer directed that all vaccinators should be provided with fuel cards by September.

He emphasized that due to effective government policy, vaccinators are now covering 99% of Punjab’s areas.

Pakistan’s first HPV vaccination campaign, initiated on the instructions of the Chief Minister, will begin in September.

“Providing the best possible healthcare facilities to the public is our top priority,” said Khawaja Imran Nazeer, adding that the benefits of Maryam Nawaz’s Health Reforms are reaching people at every level.
