Quality Control Board Meeting: Punjab Government Reaffirms Commitment to Safe and Effective Medicines — Khawaja Imran Nazir

Lahore, September 26 – A high-level meeting of the Quality Control Board was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Health and Population, Khawaja Imran Nazir, to assess the implementation of policies designed to uphold the quality of medicines available to the public.

Addressing the session, Minister Nazir underscored that ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines remains a top priority for the Punjab government. He reiterated that no compromise would be tolerated in matters concerning public health and pharmaceutical standards.

The minister announced that the Health and Population Department, in collaboration with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), is actively working to draft legislation aimed at regulating and promoting the production of standardized herbal medicines across the province.

He directed that inspections of herbal medicine manufacturing units must strictly adhere to legal protocols, with a particular emphasis on compliance with established quality control standards.

Minister Nazir also issued firm instructions to initiate immediate and indiscriminate action against unlicensed pharmaceutical factories. He emphasized the importance of regularly sharing enforcement reports with DRAP to ensure transparency and strengthen coordination at the national level.

Reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to public healthcare, the minister noted that, under the special directive of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the free provision of quality medicines is being ensured in all government hospitals throughout Punjab.

He further stated that the government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against quackery and counterfeit drugs. Enforcement agencies have been instructed to take decisive and swift action against violators to safeguard public health.
