Govt of Punjab Bans Conventional Syringes to Ensure Patient Safety



Secretary Health and Population Punjab, Nadia Saquib, chaired an important meeting to review the implementation of a ban on conventional syringes across the province. All Chief Executive Officers Health (CEOs), DDHOs, Drug Inspectors, and provincial Drug Control Teams participated in the meeting through video link.

The meeting discussed in detail the prohibition on the use of conventional syringes in order to protect patients and ensure safe medical practices.

Participants were informed that, as per government SRs and relevant notifications, a complete phased ban has already been enforced on the import, registration, and sale of 2cc, 2.5cc, 3cc, and 5cc conventional syringes.

Secretary Health Nadia Saquib directed all CEOs Health and Medical Superintendents (MSs) to ensure 100% use of Auto-Disable (AD) Syringes in all government hospitals and healthcare facilities. This step aims to prevent infections and provide safe medical services to patients.

The meeting reiterated the strong commitment of the Health Department to continue taking all necessary steps for the provision of safe, quality, and effective healthcare services to the people of Punjab.
