Successful Crackdown on Spurious Medicines by Punjab Health Department
LAHORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Khawaja Imran Nazir, announced the successful seizure of spurious medicines worth over Rs. 4 million by the Drug Control Field Force of the Punjab Health Department. The raid, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects, led to the discovery of life-saving Ketamine injections, cough syrups, Canadex-N cream, serum, and a large quantity of sex drugs. An FIR has been registered at Gulberg Police Station, and strict action is being taken against those involved under the Drug Act. Khawaja Imran Nazir highlighted that a network dealing in counterfeit medicines has been exposed in Lahore, Multan, DG Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, and Toba Tek Singh. He emphasized that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Health Department is working to create a foolproof system for the sale of quality medicines, ending the open sale of counterfeit, unregistered, and adulterated drugs. The Minister also spoke about the recent bust of a network involved in stealing insulin worth millions of rupees. In another action, a network distributing illegal sexual drugs in Toba Tek Singh was raided, with significant quantities of unregistered drugs seized and cases registered. Secretary for Primary & Secondary Healthcare, Nadia Saquib assured that ongoing monitoring and accountability will ensure the delivery of quality medicines, and black sheep within the department will be held accountable with the media's support.
